(ARCB) is a U.S. non-profit, 501(c)3 organization that supports research and academic cooperation between scholars from North America and Southeast Europe, including projects and activities conducted at its overseas partner institution, the American Research Center in Sofia (ARCS). ARCS, operating in Sofia since 2005, provides North American and Western and Eastern European scholars (postdoctoral and graduate students) with a base in Bulgaria for academic research in the humanities and social sciences. Of particular interest for ARCB and ARCS is the preservation of historical memory and research on the totalitarian regimes in the history of Bulgaria and its neighboring countries, with a focus on collecting archives, documents, and personal testimonials (see www.victimsofcommunism.bg); and research on the history of Bulgarian-American relations and the Bulgarian еmigration to the USA.
